We LOVE our spinach smoothies!

This is a spinach smoothie household.  We love them!  You may think it sounds gross but don't knock it until you've tried it.

Why do the kids like them?  The taste is amazing.  Actually, the spinach taste fades away and you really just taste the other ingredients.

Watch out!  Spinach smoothies are addictive.  In addition to the taste, it's a great way to load up on a nutrient-dense food first thing in the morning.

Will your family like the spinach smoothies too?  What I can tell you is that my friends that have tried the spinach smoothies have gotten hooked.  I've also made spinach smoothies for friends' kids and have gotten rave reviews from all of them.

As we've been playing with making spinach smoothies, we've all stumbled across our own favorite variations.  I will eventually share all of them with you, but here is Noah's spinach smoothie recipe.  This version is very kid-friendly!

Spinach Smoothie by Noah from A Little Spinach

1/2 cup of low fat vanilla yogurt *
1/2 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of choice)
1 giant handful of spinach
3/4 of a frozen banana
1 tablespoon of peanut butter (or nut butter of choice)
3 ice cubes

Blend all together.  This makes one large glassful.

*  Our tip for purchasing yogurt:  When looking for yogurt, make sure that you can read and understand all of the ingredients.  Many yogurts are filled with some pretty funky stuff.

Have you ever tried a spinach smoothie?  Have your kids?  Do you think you'll give it a shot?  We triple dog dare you!

yogurt
almond milk

spinach

adding the giant handful

grabbing bananas

bananas

peanut butter

ice

blending

Enjoy!

  3. Is that a Vitamix blender I spy? We don't have one, but I've heard great things about them!

I love spinach. Just ask my darling kiddos. They'll roll their eyes as they tell you that, YES, their mom loves spinach. I just have never been able to turn anyone else in our family on it.

Maybe, JUST MAYBE this smoothie could do the trick! I have all those ingredients. In fact, that's the very same kind of milk that I drink.

I can't wait to give this recipe a try. Maybe even tomorrow!

  5. Thoughts on getting kids to drink the shake...

First, I have to say that the taste totally sells it. It's so good.

But come up with a fun name: Shrek Shake, Grinch Shake etc.

Or, ditch the p.b. and add a little mint and call it a Shamrock Shake. :)

  8. Shelley,
Thanks SO much for this recipe! We LOVE it! I've made it 5-6 times since you shared it. Now I'm bragging about it to all my friends. No one will believe it can taste good until they try it. So now I think I'm going to have a Spinach Smoothie party to convert everyone. ;)

  9. It's looks kind of pretty in all it's green-ness! I'm thinking a certain grandchild of mine MIGHT try it.

Shelley, you asked if the wood police and fire vehicles were from Target for $1.00 and yes, they were!

If you can't find them please let me know and I'll pick up a couple for you. I stopped there again tonight to pick up more of the little people and I found a wood ice cream truck and a helicopter. I didn't look speciifically, but I'm pretty sure there will still fire and police vehicles there.

  11. OH MY WORD!!!! I had a nice long comment and I did not proof it and spelled something...well, by accident. I HAD TO DELETE IT! But I told you how frightened I was of this shake but I would maybe try it with my eyes squeezed shut in a thermos with a straw. If others say its good...I may have to try it! Now I am proofing this comment...:)
